Josef Kohout (1919-1994)
The Austrian Josef Kohout was sentenced in September 1939 to seven months imprisonment for homosexuality, but was then sent to Sachsenhausen and then to Flossenbürg in May 1940. Her lover, son of a high Nazi dignitary, judged «mentally disturbed», was not condemned. Kohout managed to survive in the camp by becoming the boyfriend of a kapo, then by assuming this position himself, a rare case. He testifies in 1972 under the pseudonym of Heinz Heger.
